    Buyer's guide

How to choose link building tools

Link building tools help you earn links: find sites worth pitching, find the right person to contact, send and follow up on outreach, and check that the links you won stay live. They are different from backlink indexes, which count links that already exist and are listed under backlink analysis tools.

    Outreach platforms

The core of most campaigns is an outreach CRM. BuzzStream starts at $49 a month for 1 user, 500 contacts and 1,000 monitored links. Pitchbox is built for teams sending at volume, from $300 a month billed monthly with 2,000 outreach emails and 25 campaigns, and every plan carries a one-year commitment, while SEO PowerSuite is the desktop option and has a free version.

    Prospects and contacts

Finding who to pitch is its own job, and Dibz searches for guest post, resource page and citation opportunities and charges by credit: 25 a month cost $25, so every prospect search has a visible price. Hunter finds and verifies email addresses and runs cold sequences, with 50 free credits a month. For a small business, CanIRank turns competitor link data into a short, prioritised list.

    After the link goes live

Links get removed, changed to nofollow or dropped from the index. LinkChecker.pro rechecks acquired links every day, verifies that Google still indexes them and sends an alert when one of them changes, with plans from $25 a month for 400 links. For paid placements, that check is the only proof.

    A note on marketplaces

Some platforms in this list sell placements rather than software. Icopify is a marketplace where publishers set their own price per post. Google's spam policies treat links bought to manipulate rankings as link spam, and a link spam update discounts them without warning. Weigh any purchase against that risk.

    How to choose

    1. Volume. A dozen pitches a month fits a spreadsheet and Hunter. Hundreds need a CRM with sequences and team seats.
    2. Commitment. At the top end, annual contracts are the norm, so ask for a monthly option before the demo ends.
    3. Monitoring. Whatever you use to win links, pair it with something that checks they stay live.
