How to choose shopify seo apps

Shopify handles the basics of SEO, but stores outgrow its defaults quickly: hundreds of products with thin meta descriptions, images without alt text, slow pages and product pages without full structured data. Shopify SEO apps fix these from inside the admin, mostly in bulk, and nearly all of them now use AI to write titles, descriptions and alt text.

What the apps do

Meta tags and alt text in bulk. Every app here writes them from templates or AI. SEO King includes unlimited AI meta titles and descriptions from $9.99 a month.
Structured data. JSON-LD for products, reviews, breadcrumbs and FAQs. SearchPie adds price, rating and FAQ schema on its $39 Premium plan.
Speed and images. Image compression and lazy loading. TinySEO, formerly TinyIMG, starts at $14 a month with 1,500 image optimisations.
Audits and broken links. Plug in SEO scans up to 200 pages on its $29.99 Lite plan. Smart SEO checks broken links and starts at $14.99.
AI search readiness. Booster SEO and SearchPie generate an llms.txt file, and SEOWILL (formerly SEOAnt) runs a GEO audit next to its SEO one.

Most of these apps have a free plan that covers a small store: Avada SEO, SearchPie, Booster SEO, Smart SEO and SEOWILL all do. Start with one, and upgrade when the free limits on images or AI generations become the bottleneck.

How to choose

Run one SEO app, not three. Two apps writing schema or meta tags produce duplicates and conflicts.
Check what the app injects. Apps that add scripts to the storefront can slow it down. Test speed before and after installing.
Review AI output. Bulk AI descriptions save hours, and they also make every product page sound the same. Edit the bestsellers by hand.
Uninstall cleanly. Check whether the app's changes stay in your theme and product data when you remove it.
